Sinema, kendisinden önce var olan; resim, heykel, müzik, tiyatro gibi sanat dallarının hepsiyle iletişim halinde olsa da, birbirlerine bağlı olan bu halkalar zincirindeki en kopmaz bağı edebiyatla kurduğu ilişkide bulur. Tüm sanat dallarının bir çeşit anlatı aracı olarak kullanılmasına karşın, sinema ile edebiyatı birbirine bu denli kenetleyen nokta ise, belli bir olay örgüsü içinde gerçekleşen anlatım potansiyelinin, diğer sanatlara oranlara maksimum seviyede kullanılabilmesidir. Edebiyat ile sinema etkileşimini değerlendiren ilk yönetmenlerden olan D. W. Griffith; film çekerken Dickens’la aynı şeyi yaptığını, bu aşamadaki uyguladığı tek farkın ise öykünün resimlerle anlatılması olduğunu belirtir. Dolayısıyla aslında aynı amaca hizmet eden bu benzer iki sanat alanının farkı onları sık sık birleştirir de. Charles Dickens’tan Jane Austen’a sinema, İngiliz edebiyatının en önemli eserlerine sırtını yaslamışken sizler için İngiliz edebiyatından sinemaya uyarlanmış mutlaka izlenmesi gereken 75 filmi sıraladık.
